It's been a little while since I've updated the blog -- and there's a reason for that. I went on vacation! Well... kind of. I think most know by now that my mom fell and broke her hip. She's been released from the hospital and I went home to Nebraska to help her out around the house.

Before making it to Lincoln, though, I stopped by Seattle for a previously scheduled trip to see my best friend, Molly, her wife, Angie, and to meet their new baby, Jade!

Isn't Jade just adorable?!? In between play time, a picnic and a Mariners game, the four of us spent an hour together at a neighborhood park so I could capture family photos. I can't wait to share more from this amazing family!

I'm so excited to share these photos! Jimena and Greg are some of my favorite people, and I'm honored they chose me to photograph their wedding!

I adore small weddings, and Jimena and Greg's big day exemplifies way. Small often means simple but breathtaking. Part of what made this wedding so special -- and, let's face it, so stunning -- were the all details and the stories behind them. Those centerpieces? They were arranged by Ms. Maria Eugenia Lara, a friend of the family. The reception room decor? It was set up by the bride's father and a family friend. The bride's dress? You guessed it! Custom made by a friend of the bride. I'm telling you, this day oozed love!

From couple's five minute (Yes, FIVE MINUTES!) ceremony to that decadent cake, I enjoyed everything about this wedding. But my favorite part of the day was watching Jimena and Greg share their first dance and husband and wife. The love they have for each other is undeniable, and joy was written all over their faces! Jimena and Greg, I love you both and wish you many years of laughter and happiness! xoxo

Preview | The Headboard That Cliff Built

What a crazy couple of weeks it's been! Summer is my busy time, which means this blog is usually bumpin'. But two weeks ago, everything came to a standstill when my mom fell and broke her hip. She's in in-patient physical therapy now and making great progress, but she has a long road of recovery ahead of her. As soon as she's released from in-patient PT, I'll be headed home to Nebraska to help her get adjusted.

Before I continue, I have to give a huge thank you and shout out to clients who have been so flexible, so willing to reschedule photoshoots or give me a little extra time to get photos to them while I take care of family matters.

Now onto what was supposed to be summer's main event in the Huseman-Starkey household: Our new headboard!

We bought a condo just under two years ago and have slowly but surely been decorating it room by room to make it our own. We started with thebathroom and have now moved onto the bedroom. The bedroom isn't finished just yet, but before I did a full before-and-after post, I wanted to give everyone a taste of what Cliff has been up to all summer long. See that big, beautiful, floor-to-ceiling headboard? He built it! From scratch!

It was a pretty long process (which I'll fully recount soon) and somewhat scary for us, since neither of us are versed in woodworking. But, Cliff took his time and did his homework, and it really paid off. The project turned out so much better than either of us could have expected! I'm so proud of Cliff for taking on this crazy idea, and so thankful for all the love and devotion he put into it! Cliff did most of the work, but we put it up together. You can watch a time-lapse video of us here!
Turning our condo into our dream home is so much fun, and I can't wait to show you more soon!
