16. I drive stick shift.
It's what I learned to drive on and I love it. I feel it keeps me more alert while driving, which is always a good thing.
17. I've never lived without an animal.
I believe in the healing powers of the human-animal bond and feel so blessed to have grown up in a household where animals were (and are) valued, cherished members of the family. Even when I lived in the dorms in college, I kept a gerbil, Cookie, hidden in my closet. Having an animal nearby provided a wonderful sense of comfort and joy.
18. I was bullied.
Here's the really sad part. My experiences with bullies didn't take place in elementary, middle or even high school. I was bullied much later in life, in college and again in the workplace. Sometimes I still get bummed out thinking about those experiences, but I've also learned that bullies lash out because of their own insecurities--not because of any character flaw possessed by their victims. You can learn more about workplace bullying and how to stop it here and here.
I'm a huge fan of folk music, and John Denver is one of my favorite artists. Listening to Sunshine on my Shoulders or Rocky Mountain High leaves me feeling serene and at peace.
20. I plan to eat at every restaurant in Silver Spring.
Yup. It's true. Cliff and I came up with the idea after realizing there are so many great restaurants in our neighborhood that we never try because we always end up going back to the same places. Not only are we trying every restaurant in Silver Spring, but we're blogging about our experience! It's going to take us more than a year to complete the task, but so far, the journey has been awesome! You can read our reviews over on Silver Spring Inc.'s website!
