I usually try to keep these preview blog posts short and sweet, but not this time. Guys, I gotta get serious -- and a little philosophical -- just this once. I enjoy photography because I love creating beautiful images. There are times, though, when photography goes beyond something I enjoy and becomes something I need. This weekend was one of those times.
Regular readers of this blog know that my father recently lost his leg in an emergency amputation. Over the last six months, he's made great progress in his recovery and rehabilitation... until last week. Due to additional complications, dad had to have another, albeit lesser, amputation, this time on his left foot.
The news sent shock waves through my family. After all my father has been through, we were not expecting this. News that yet another infection had spread to the bone came completely out of left field. There were tears and fears and lots of phone calls and I love yous, but my family is united and my dad is really, really strong. He made it through the amputation (this one, an out-patient procedure) with flying colors and is once again in in-patient physical therapy working toward independence and determined to go home.
While I know he's safe and in good hands, the situation rocked me more than I expected. I'm not gonna lie: last week was rough. That's where photography comes in.
My weekend was filled with back-to-back product shoots, and they couldn't have come at a better time. Having the opportunity to work with the incredibly talented Ebise of Mare Naturals and Dianne of The Shine Collection was so therapeutic. It was awesome to be surrounded by such creative people in such positive environments! For those few hours, I was able to forget all of my worries and focus on doing what I love.
So, without further ado, I offer you a sneak preview from a weekend spent with some talented, creative, caring women and the products they make.
