Sev specializes in event and special-effects makeup and has a client list that ranges from Cosplay fans to blushing brides. I've asked her to share her expertise for finding the perfect wedding-day look in this five-part series, Makeup Your Photographs.
Finding the right artist.
When it comes to finding a makeup artist, word of mouth will most likely give you the best results. Do you have a friend who's gotten married recently? Did she like her artist? Do you like the way she looks in her wedding portraits? Great! Her recommendation is the perfect place to start.
If you're the first of your circle to get married, try going to a convention. Bring your girlfriends and make a day of it. Most importantly, be sure to look at all of your options. A number of different artists usually attend a single convention. Stop and talk with each one. Get to know what makes them unique and what services they can offer you. Encourage each of your friends to spend ten minutes being made up by a different artist, then compare completed looks to figure out which style and pricing system you like best.
Finally, don't forget about the other resources you have available. Wedding photographers and planners may also have leads on makeup artists they’ve previously worked with and can recommend.
